Chapter 10
Elizabeth was beyond upset. Her plans were quickly fading away. She didn’t like how things were turning out. Her contact had been murdered. The one who specialized in assassinations. The former detective had counted on him to rid her of Candy and Kathy. The man could make any murder look like an accident. It was what she had needed. To finally be able to move on past her addiction to the woman who had spurned her and caused her dismissal from the force.
The mob woman shook her head. She was supposed to be beyond these feelings. Her vengeance against Kathy and Candy had simply become a way to show her competitors that no one was allowed to cross her and get away with it. Even someone who had never intended to cross her needed to be taught a lesson. And here she was, being consumed by old feelings. The feelings that had been her weakness and her downfall.
There was also the fact Crystal had not followed through with orders. Elizabeth made her way to the glass table in her lavish apartment. It was one of many places she called home now. She never stayed in one place too long. It was so no one could trace her whereabouts. Long ago, even before she had left the police force, she had made it so she had no fingerprints. It had been a painful procedure, but it had been worth it.
Why had it been worth it? Even back then, she had been a dirty cop. Not many knew what she was up to. Not many knew that it was only a matter of time before she was to become what she had. It was her destiny. Her family’s humble beginnings, to her mother’s fall from her preachings to become a drug addict was all things she had to endure to become the person she was meant to be. It wasn’t mayor, governor or even president.
Elizabeth had been born to greatness. She had been born to be powerful. Everyone thought The President of the United States was the most powerful position to hold. While among political leaders that was true, the real power was held by those that didn’t uphold the laws. How easily could someone in the government be corrupted, all by the right amount of money? Money was the true power. Not someone who made the laws of the land.
The other problem Elizabeth was having was the fact her sister was going against everything she had told her. Vanessa had never been one to take life seriously. She had inherited that from their mother. The former detective sighed. Just when she thought she had everything going the way she wanted, her sister had to pull this kind of stunt. In fact, she had scared Crystal into hiding. No one had seen her. None of her contacts knew where the brown-haired woman was.
The knock on the door surprised her. There were very few people who knew where she called home. Even fewer could find her without first calling or texting.
